Alida van DeventerA Passionate South African puppeteer since childhood, Alida von Maltitz studied music and art. She visited puppet theatres in Europe and worked in with John Wright in The Little Angel Marionette Theatre in London. When the Salzburg Marionette Theatre toured South Africa she was part of their team. She went on to establish the marionette company of the Johannesburg Civic Theatre and worked there as the lead marionette artist. During the course of her long career she has attended and also performed or taught at various international Puppet festivals. She designed, made and manipulated the very first character to appear on TV in SA, the now famous puppet called Haas Das. She is married to Jaap van Deventer and has raised four children. She remains active as puppeteer and teacher, enjoying sharing the art with her grandchildren and others.
